What should I check before changing a live website or service?
Before changing a live service, identify the correct website and understand what the change will affect. A small check first can prevent avoidable downtime.
- Confirm the service name and domain in Account Manager.
- Keep a current backup when the service provides one.
- Write down important DNS, email, database, or application settings before replacing them.
- Make one change at a time and test the website afterward.
- Do not delete records, files, databases, or mailboxes you do not recognize.
For an error, record the exact message, when it started, and what changed just before it happened. Put those details in a Help Center ticket, but never include passwords, one-time codes, API tokens, or private keys.
